Join us for an afternoon of string quartets composed by female composers inspired by the sights and sounds of mountainous regions. Violinist Yuki Numata-Resnick joins Dustin Budish and Eileen Brownell once again to perform for the second time under the auspices of the Tahoe Chamber Music Society.
The group will perform the world premiere of Reno composer Monica Houghton’s Third String Quartet. The piece was inspired by children’s chants recorded by a friend of the composer in Nepal. We are thrilled to announce that the composer plans to attend the performance.
Also on the program will be Gabriela Lena Frank’s quartet Leyendas. The quartet incorporates many brilliant effects in order to describe the sights and sounds of the Andes, including panpipes, the travels of the Chasqui, a legendary Incan runner who sprints from village to village, and the wailing of the llorona, someone hired to cry at funerals, making them as sad as possible.
